Abandonment, Rejection, Unwanted and Shame
Tragically, many who bear these wounds have been hurt by those entrusted by God to care for, protect, and love them—their parents.
God established the covenant of marriage as the foundation for family. Through this sacred bond, a man and woman come together, and their union leads to the blessing of children. Within this covenant, God’s presence is central from the very beginning, ensuring a nurturing environment for growth and love.
All marriages are ordained by God, and His covenant offers the best foundation for those who enter into a God-centered union. Parents entrusted with children are called to be keepers—Godly role models who demonstrate unconditional love, provide protection, and nurture their children with care. This creates a secure environment for raising healthy, well-rounded individuals.
When Marriage Deviates from God’s Design
When a marriage does not align with God’s intended pattern, parents may struggle to impart His ways and love to their children. As a result, children can grow up experiencing deep emotional trauma and heartache.
This can manifest in various ways, such as feelings of abandonment, rejection, or being unwanted. In some cases, children may experience shame due to abuse, leading them to adopt destructive coping mechanisms—like substance abuse—in an attempt to numb the pain and negative emotions. This is often referred to as being "brokenhearted." Don’t take your life, give it to God. Let Him do something wonderful with it.
The Goal for Those Reading This
The aim is to help you heal your broken heart—freeing you from the pain, anger, resentment, rejection, abandonment, and self-destructive behaviors that may have stemmed from parents not fulfilling the role God intended for them. We use the term keepers to emphasize that their role on Earth is temporary.
First and Foremost:
All life comes from God. Regardless of the circumstances—whether through loving parents, neglect, abuse, trauma, or positive experiences—God has allowed you to be born into this world with a purpose: to find Him.
Parents, caregivers, or keepers are meant to guide and support you on your journey toward God. Their role is temporary, but His love for you is eternal. You might now be wondering, Which God cares so deeply for me? Let us help you explore that answer.
The God of the bible who said this [Genesis 1.26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [g]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”]
God Has Created You. You Are Not Random or a Mistake
He says this before you were conceived in your mother’s womb.
[Psalm 139.13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.] God wants you to know this truth
[Jeremiah 1.4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”] God who knows the end from the beginning has called you to be born and for a purpose.
Now we have established that you are here for a reason regardless of the way you got here. The next hurdle is for you to begin the healing process.
God Wants to Heal Your Heart
The root cause of the trauma you carry is sin, which entered the world in the Garden of Eden. You can read more about this in the book of Genesis. God created humanity in perfection, but when sin came into the world, it brought death and separation from Him. This separation led to rebellion against God and a rejection of His ways—a rejection rooted in sin.
The pain you are experiencing stems from the effects of sin committed against you by those entrusted to care for and nurture you. Sin is not just a physical or emotional issue; it is spiritual, causing death within a person. This spiritual brokenness gives rise to destructive behaviors and coping mechanisms as a response to trauma. At its core, sin is the source of your pain—but God desires to heal you and restore your heart.
[Isiah 49.15“Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. 16 See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.
[Psalm 68.5 “A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation”
[Jeremiah 29.11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.]
Rejection – Abandonment – Rejection.
Others may have hurt and damaged you and done terrible things to you causing your heart to be broken into a thousand pieces. But God, the only one that matters, has not rejected you or abandoned you or forsaken you.
He is deeply saddened that those who are supposed to represent Him have failed, and even worse, corrupted or distorted the love He has for you and the plans
They have given a false representation of God to you, when in fact Your real Father in Heaven is a loving, merciful, gracious, kind and the source of divine unconditional healing love. The One that you truly belong to. He has made you in His image.
God was so serious about you knowing the truth, He came himself to earth to demonstrate clearly His nature through the person of Jesus Christ. He did not fail.
God Came Himself To Heal The Broken Hearted
God Himself came to Earth in the person of Jesus Christ. He entered creation, born into the world to bring hope and restoration. Jesus went about doing good—healing the sick, casting out demons that caused suffering, and freeing many from sickness and disease.
He lived a sinless life, performed countless miracles that only God could accomplish, and ultimately gave Himself in human form as a sacrifice for us. Only the Creator of you and me can truly fix what is broken within us. You can learn more about His life and mission in the Gospels, starting with the Gospel of John.
His Mission To Heal The Broken Hearted
He said this in Luke 4.18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”]
Jesus Christ: The One Who Came to Set You Free
Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth to live a perfect, sinless life that was fully pleasing to God. He gave His life as a ransom for many—including you—even if you don’t realize it yet.
Jesus died for your sin, destroyed its power, and defeated death because He was innocent before God. On the third day, He rose from the dead, conquering all sin and death. After His resurrection, He instructed His disciples to share the Good News with the world: that anyone can be freed from their own sins and from the effects of sins committed against them—including you.
Through Jesus' work on the cross, you can be reconciled to God. He invites everyone who hears and believes this message to turn to Him. To "repent" means to change your mind, redirect your life, and place your trust in the Good News of His salvation.
When you truly believe the message of the cross—not just with your mind but with your heart—God begins to work supernaturally within you. He pours His love into your heart through the Holy Spirit, the true source of hope and healing.
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)
Jesus Christ Came to Set the Captives Free
“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32)
Jesus taught that anyone who sins becomes a slave to sin, but He also declared:
“If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
What Happens Next
When you receive God’s salvation, it means being delivered, set free, healed, and brought into a right relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. This marks the beginning of your reconciliation to God—a journey of realizing that you belong to Him. This isn’t a mental decision alone; it’s a transformation of the heart. As God draws you closer, you will begin to encounter Him in tangible and real ways through His Holy Spirit.
How Does This Heal My Broken Heart?
- Where you once felt rejection by people, you will come to know that you are fully accepted by God.
- Where you once felt abandoned or hated, you will experience the reality of being adopted and loved by God as His own child.
- Where you once carried shame, you can believe that Christ took your shame upon Himself on the cross. He bore it all—even being crucified naked—so you could live free from it.
What Should You Do Next?
If this message resonates with you, consider taking the next step: baptism. Through baptism, you symbolically die to your old self, habits, and ways, and rise with Christ to walk in the newness of life. It is a public declaration of your faith and a step toward living fully in the freedom and purpose God has for you.
John 8.31Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Its up to you now to take the next step. Be free and start a new in Christ.
